You can go to control panel, click on sound and audio devices, go to sound
tab, and you will find all the sound you can modify. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the responses. I'm sorry I forgot to say that I am running
xp. I can find a group of volumes but none of them says windows sounds.
It's just the windows sounds that doesn't work. All other sounds work
fine. It's just the sound when you shut down or bring up windows and the
sound it makes when you unplug a printer or scanner and things like that.
It's just specifically windows sounds. I'll look more among the volumes
but couldn't find one for windows. Thanks again for the great response.
