normally i to, won't reply to this kind o thing, but i will anyway.

i have used jaws, and am using win eyes. I prefer win eyes over jaws,
for the simple fact it is relyable. FS assing all these features like
reasearch it, and the ribbon sh**, just create more problems for jaws to
have. Like come on guys, jaws is a bata program for crying out loud. do
we really want win eyes to go from what it is now, and what we have, and
basically drop back multiple versions because all these add ons at first
causing problems?... as for ms word ribbon, not sure why there is a
problem with this, i am assuming that u mean the tool bar, with home,
insert, and all that jazz, i have 0 difficulty. i onestly hate to say it
here, but as blind people, we have to be more addaptive, with our
programs and screen reading software. there is too much compotition out
there, and will take gw down any chance they get, but if gw keeps their
programs up to date, as best as they can make it, then we have nothing
to worry about. Its all about addapting people. Win eyes as far as im
concerned is way better the jaws will ever be, let alone most other
screen reading software.

I usually don't comment on these types of emails but of course
there are exceptions every rule. Smile

I also have to agree with you, and the question is why can't a
screen reader just be a screen reader? With out getting a debate
started however I know from a demo I've heard JAWS can even get scores,
weather, or people lookup and I didn't realize this is a part of a
screen reader's purpose. Smile

I could say more but must get back to work again. Huge smile

I disagree here. The ribbons can be learned with a little
study, and there are add-ons that you can buy that provide an
alternative interface to the ribbons. I believe that the role of a
screen reader is to provide access, not necessarily to provide an
alternative interface. JAWS has done many things over the years to wed
customers to their program. Older versions of JAWS used the F6 key to
go to the desktop, even though there was an easy to use Windows hot key
that would do the same. Research-it is an example of another such
gimmick. It doesn't do anything that Google doesn't do, and it breaks
every time one of the URLs it points to changes, requiring users to
download and install another build of the program. And, if you are on
the JAWS listservs, you will notice that the NUMPAD-INSERT key is
referred to as the JAWS key, and JAWS users don't even know that it can
perform other functions. These kinds of gimmicks are a way to hook
customers and to make it much more difficult to contemplate switching to
another product.

The competition has lots of problems and this is why I've
switched over to WE. However, in the latest release of the competition
they came out with a virtual ribbon. The user has the choice to switch
this feature on or off.

This offers a dramatic improvement for navigating the menu
ribbon in ms office.

I'd like to see gw do the same.

        Thanx,
