Hi Josh, to turn off tabbed browsing you go to the tools menu of IE 8, and choose the options menu. This takes you to a dialog with many controls, and unfortunately there are 3 buttons, all of their prompts just say "settings" but don't tell you which settings they control. The one whose shortcut is alt-t controls the settings for tabs, so press alt-t and you'll go into the tabs dialog. in here the first control is a checkbox for whether to enable tabbed browsing. uncheck it and ok your way out, and then restart IE 8.
