I have noticed that when the torrent program is running on my desktop , it does slow WE down considerably. Not so with my netbook. But, sometimes, when the torrent program isn't up and running, moving large numbers of files, lets say , from the main hard drive to an external drive, causes the choppiness, or when I am installing a program or what not.
Maybe it's time to scrap my computer, it's over 13 years old, and get a new one. He does not need or have W.E. The problem ended up being his use of a torrent program. He was using it to download movies. However, he did not realize that the software also turned his machine into a server from which others could upload copies of any movies he downloaded. When we went in and looked at the information re the running program he discovered that over 18 users were uploading movie data from his PC. This very heavy drain on his PC's resources slowed his machine down to a snail's pace. It also tied up his internet connection due to the heavy traffic load going on. For example, when he tried to read one email it would take upwards of ten minutes before the email would open. Simple program switching using alt-tab would take a minute. Once he realized this he shut down the torrent software completely and his PC went back to its normal excellent response time. The point here was that he had no idea this was happening in the background. If your torrent program works like this I can see how such a situation could be happening to you in the background without your being aware of it, stealing most of your PC's resources and leaving very few cycles for Window Eyes to use. I suspect this could certainly cause stuttering and slow speech from Window Eyes and would impact the performance of any other programs you might be running at the same time. I am not familiar with the program you are using so I could be off mark here. Perhaps you could investigate the mu torrent program and see if this might be happening to you. Hope this helps. When my system is bogged down, the WE voice, Reid, becomes choppy and slow. It especially happens when I have mu torrent running in the back ground, and then if I try to use OE or if I use windows explorer to move files between an SD card and the hard drive, it becomes almost totally non understandable. It does not happen on my netbook , which has a bit more RAM, but this has never happened before on my desktop. I was careful on which updates I put on my desktop and it still happens. Both systems are running WE 7.2 and Windows xp home with all available updates. Any suggestions off the tops of your heads?
