Recently,

Steve Clower from GW publicized a support knowledgebase article which
described how a setting on your soundcard could cause your synthesized voice
to become choppy and unresponsive.

As I recall it, it said if you have a checkbox checked which allows sound
effects to be used by the soundcard, this would cause the problem. if you
reinstalled windows, is it possible you now have the soundcard set like
this? perhaps you could search the GW KB for this article and follow it's
instructions to check if you do?

FYI, not all soundcards have this option.

Subject: question about WE and doing too much with your system at one time

Hi, I recently did a full reinstall of windows on my system due to this
problem, and I don't think it's a windows problem. When my system is bogged
down, the WE voice, Reid, becomes choppy and slow. It especially happens
when I have mu torrent running in the back ground, and then if I try to use
OE or if I use windows explorer to move files between an SD card and the
hard drive, it becomes almost totally non understandable.

It does not happen on my netbook , which has a bit more RAM, but this has
never happened before on my desktop. I was careful on which updates I put
on my desktop and it still happens. Both systems are running WE 7.2 and
Windows xp home with all available updates.

Any suggestions off the tops of your heads?

Thanks

Keith
