The other things you can do is to purchase for probably less than
thirty dollars a numeric pad keyboard that plugs into the USB port of
your computer. You can also buy a complete keyboard that plugs into
your USB port. I find that the numeric pad works best for me,
especially since the keys on my IBM laptop are about as large as keys
on regular computer keyboards. It also makes it much easier to carry
around if you need to.

Don,
I prefer the standard layout, with use of the fn key to simulate numericpad
keys in combination with the u i and o centered portion of the keyboard.
Really, this is so when others speak of specific keystrokes, I can follow
what they're meaning is; and with a little practice, I don't have any
trouble making the combinations. Also, I can look things up in the manual,
and count on them being correct.
You can downloads the remapcapslock utility, and it will cause capslock to
act as an additional insert key, making this option even better (though for
some odd reason capslock doesn't always work in all situations).

Subject: keyboard layout
Trying to set up a new HP laptop with a keyboard that has no numpad.
Which keyboard layout works best in this situation?
