Hello: Simply placing a JPG file inside a Word document does not make it accessible. A JPG file is simply a picture of the document. Reading the document from this format would require scanning and Optical Character Recognition. This is little different than handing you a paper copy of the document.
If the document was created free-hand, OCR may not even do the trick. If the document was created using a computer it may be best to obtain an electronic copy of the document. I have been out of school for some time but I don't recall any significant advances enabling conversion of standard mathematics into an easily readable linear format. So- even if you were to obtain the documents in electronic form, reading them will take some time and effort. I don't discourage this time and effort, though I don't know your schedule and/or other obligations. HTH.
