Steve called and demonstrated this and we have duplicated it and will be investigating it.

Just did that and no change. I do note that while editing this message in outlook express, I can page down and page up and get reasonably quick results, less than a half second of a pause before reading. I do think this is slightly slower than version 7.2 though. But for sure, it's slower with page up and down while just reading the message, such as what happens when you first hit enter on the message index.

I've noticed up to a five second pause if I hit page down while listening to the message while reading it. But again, more usual to be about three to four second pause.

Go to screen other and set paragraph style to auto instead of on and see if this impacts the performance.

I have outlook express and window-eyes to read the first 24 lines of text when opening a message. I'm also finding that if I open an outlook express message, then hit the control key to shut it up, and then use the page down to read the next 24 lines, sometimes it takes three seconds to get the next 24 lines to speak. It rarely starts speaking in less than a half second, as it did before. I can hit control to stop the speech, then page down again, hit control right away, page down again, control right away again, and it can take up to three seconds to respond to the pagedown. But it usually take about 1.5 seconds or so. BTW, I can hit page down without stopping speech with the control and get similar responses.

It used to be faster, less than a half second with 7.2. Again, no changes on this system except 7.5 beta 1. So sending this report as I suspect when all items speed up in the listbox and outlook express index of messages, this will speed up as well.

I did a test in wordpad and no such delays with the page down key I also tested this message while composing it, and no appreciable delays while using page down or page up key moving by 24 lines. Seems it's only when outlook express displays the messages, and in the outlook express index. Also, I get some sluggishness while arrowing through my list of outlook express list of folders. I think it's all related.

Thanks,
Steve

Hello Steve, we will investigate. Based on your description, you are using the Eloquence which is tied to Window-Eyes.

Thanks.

Raul,

I'm not sure which is which, but I'll give a description. If this
doesn't work, I can call your office.
However, I still get the same results regardless of which synth I'm using.

I'm using the eloquence that has the five different voices for various
languages. I find them first by locating the eloquence entry in the
treeview, then tabbing over to the fifty voice/language choices.
These languages are U.S. English, German, UK English, Mexican Spanish,
Castillian Spanish, Finish, French, Canadian French, Italian, and
Brazillian Portuegese. There are fifty choices in that list, and I've
given them in the order they appear.

If I switch to the DecTalk Access 32 Window-Eyes, I get the same
sluggishness. That choice is higher up on the synthesizer list and does
not have a selection of voices.

I see there is a Sapi option in the treeview, and when I tab from there
I see three choices:
at&t Labs, AT&T Natural Voices, 1.4 desktop, Mike
AT&T v.1.4, Mike 16, Sapi 5
and the last one is Microsoft Sam, sapi 5

So I think I'm using the Eloquence tied to window-eyes, but am not sure.
If this doesn't answer your question, let me know and I'll call your
office. If you can tell which one I'm using, do let me know. <grin>.

Steve

I can't find where it can tell if its eloquence ETI or ECI Eloquence.

Steve, is the Eloquence you are using the ECI one which is tied
directly to Window-Eyes, or are you using the SAPI ETI Eloquence.

Many thanks.

Steve,

It might be worth seeing if turning off all scripts, now apps, helps
at all. It isn't that you can't run scripts, but if turning them off
helps, then it is worth seeing if
a particular app is causing the problem.

Well Jim,

I'm glad you are not having problems with sluggishness. As to how
you or
anybody else can produce the problem, just use my system and compare
it with
7.2. As I said using xp with service pack 3, eloquence Reed voice, a
little
more than 512M ram, and yes I know that's not much, though someone
else had
4 gigs of ram on a 64 bit machine. Mine is a 32 bit machine. Nothing
else
running except eset smart security. In other words, I have exactly
the same
system I had with version 7.2 and now I'm using the beta 7.5. It's
gotten
sluggish compared to before installing 7.5. What else can I say to
assist
other than what I have? I'm not a computer geek. As far as I can tell,
I've done my job at this point. I have confidence that GW will find
out
what is going on. God knows how these programs work anyway.

And yes, I do expect problems with betas. And that's why I reported
what I
did, as others have on this list.

first this is a beta. one of your jobs when testing beta software
is to
provide us with how we can reproduce the problem. you should also
expect
problems because this is beta software. so if you want it to work and work right don't try a beta. also I for one see no difference between
7.2 and 7.5 when working in list boxes list views.

Hello,

Why would it be more sluggish because of 512 MB of Ram on 7.5 when it
wasn't on 7.2 and why have other users reported this? Grr!!

Hi,

Made no changes since I installed the beta but I find it sluggish
when
moving through list boxes such as windows explorer and the index of
outlook
express messages. Sometimes it takes almost a half second to
voice the
new
position.

I'm using windows xp sp3, 512 mega bytes ram, (maybe a little more
as I
think I had a little more put in), the Reed setting for eloquence
is the
voice. BTW, I changed to the gw voice an no appreciable change.
Also,
as I
review this message, it seems a little sluggish when arrowing up
and down
through this message. Compared to 7.2 there is definately a
sluggishness
creeping in, especially in listboxes and the index of email
messages.
