Hello GW et al:
I'm noticing a rather peculiar behavior with the beta.
Perhaps it is only happening on my machine but here's the story:
As you all doubtless know, the hotkey to have Window-Eyes read from
"Left-To-Mouse" is ALT-INSERT-NUMPAD-LEFT ARROW. On my machine however the
"INSERT" appears to refer only to the "SIX PACK" INSERT key and Window-Eyes
will have it no other way. When I enter "Key Describer Mode" and depress
the three-key combination of ALT-NUMPAD-INSERT-NUMPAD-LEFT ARROW,
Window-Eyes says only "ALT" when I depress the ALT key and "INSERT" when I
release all three keys; I hear no description of the expected result.
However when I depress the three-key combination using the "six pack" INSERT
key instead I hear the expected verbiage.
In real-time, Window-Eyes honors this elitism:
ALT-NUMPAD-INSERT-NUMPAD-LEFT ARROW yields no results where
ALT-INSERT-NUMPAD-LEFT ARROW gets the desired result.
I have tried going into the Control Panel and recapturing the Hotkey using
the NUMPAD-INSERT key, but when I do Window-Eyes goes into a "stunned mode."
The "Capture-Key" dialog seems to close and Window-Eyes appears to lose its
place: It moves to the top of the Mouse Hotkeys list. The only way to
navigate effectively at this point is by SHIFT-TABBING. TABBING gets one
nowhere. The only way I have found to bring Window-Eyes around is by
putting it to sleep and reawakening it while "chanting in tongues."
Now, If instead of trying to capture the intended three-key combination,
I just capture ALT-NUMPAD-LEFT ARROW, all is well, same if I try capturing
only NUMPAD-INSERT-NUMPAD-LEFT ARROW. "But" you say, "INSERT-NUMPAD-LEFT
ARROW is already assigned." Exactly, and that's what Window-Eyes tells me,
but at least it is acknowledging the keystrokes.
I have also tried toggling the scope of the hotkey and recapturing, with
the same confusing results.
Here's the best part: ALT-INSERT-NUMPAD-RIGHT ARROW and the rest of the
family act just as expected.
Is anyone else as confused as I am? Better yet, is anyone else
experiencing the same behavior?
Full disclosure: I have no six pack. These six keys actually appear
side-by-side on my keyboard .
