Unfortunately, this is due to the technology that Microsoft
implemented
in Windows Live Messenger 2011, called DirectUI. That means that there
is no OSM for Window-Eyes to use to position the mouse around the
window. As this technology becomes more prevalent, there will be
less of
an OSM for Window-Eyes to use. You will find the same drawback in
Internet Explore 9, as it also uses DirectUI.
We will be trying to work around these issues as time goes on; we
recognize the importance of being able to review the screen with the
mouse. But as this technology progresses, relying on mouse navigation
may become a secondary option.

with the numbpad, all i can read is the menu bar at the top of the
screen. I like being able to read the window to click on urls people
send me instead of trying to copy bits at a time. So right now all I
see is the conversation name and the menu bar, file, edit, action,
tools, help. I have tried maximizing the window, no luck. When I
route
the pointer, the mouse says,"pointer routed to edit box." and then I
am placed immediately in the input box and still unable to read the
history window.
