if you go to the screen punctuation and turn off miscelanious the
apostrophe will not be spoken in words.
i don't know what other punctuation will be turned off though.

I agree. There should be some type of exception to not speak things like n
apostrophe t or star apostrophe ve or star apostrophe ll, for example. I
would be glad to do that except for one minor deatail, I'm (oh yeah, star
apostrophe m) not a programmer/scripter ... yet.

Hi Olusegun ,
I agree about how awkward the apostrophe is; there are times when
programming I wish to hear it, but not when it's in it's usual place in a
word. I think this is a great opportunity for a scripter to handle this
issue somehow. maybe use the character dictionary to stop the apostrophe
from being said, and then processing the text before it's spoken to see
if
the apostrophe looks out of place, and if so, then substitute the word
"apostrophe" for it in the text?
Something along these lines anyway should let us hear it when it's out of
place, and not hear it when it's not.
hope someone feels like taking this on, and maybe others will offer
suggestions as to how this might work?

Subject: WINDOW-EYES 7.5--A SUGGESTION FOR THE FUTURE
Hi Everyone:
I did receive the CD in the mail this past week-end and I installed at
work
about two hours ago. Right now, I'm still putting it through its paces.
In
a few days, I should, if plans do not go awry, have a better report.
During the quick setup selection, I noticed that such items as the Dollar
sign, aprostrophe, ETC. were placed in the Miscellaneous selection
checkbox.
In my opinion, I think that currency and percent signs should be separate
check boxes. I put forward this suggestion because the way Window-Eyes
7.5
reports apostrophes when reading a document leaves much to be desired.
For
example, "you'll" is read as "you(apostrophe) l l." This can make the
reading of documents a bit hard to follow and perhaps even understand.
The
reading of apostrophes, me thinks, should be moved to punctuation
selection
checkbox.
When I read a document, I don't want the apostrophes, dashes, parentheses
and such read. However, I'd like to see $1, $100, and or 10%, 25% read.
This is essential for some of us who run retail operations and want to be
sure that the information being read by the screen reader makes sense.
I am hoping that my suggestion does make a modicum of sense and that GW
Micro staff will take a hard look at the proposal and hopefully implement
it
by either releasing a patch later, or in the next release of the program.
Many thanks!!
