Thanks, Steve. I thought that was the case. I've used a few different
hardware synths over the years and several software synths and never had a
problem with the default configuration. This is why I've been a bit baffled
by this thread and a couple off list replies. I've never had to do anything
to have monetary values voiced correctly.
Regards,
Tom

FOR THE FUTURE
Tom,
Normally, when numbers is set to on, Window-Eyes will process currency as
you would expect. $1.23 is pronounced "1 dollars and 23 cents." However,
if for some reason this isn't working, switching the number processing to
the synthesizer can improve how these are read, but that depends on the
synthesizer itself.
Of course, if you are replacing the dollar-sign with some other character,
it will never be sent to the synthesizer, and Window-Eyes consequently
won't pronounce the currency correctly.

Steve

Hey Steve,
Now I'm really curious. I've always had numbers set to: On and monetary
values have always spoken as expected. I thought this was the point of
having WE process numbers. I just set numbers to Synthesizer and only
the numbers are spoken as if there is no dollar sign, which I guess is
correct be it that I don't have the dollar sign in my character
dictionary. Am I missing something?

Olusegun,
Go to Screen/Voice, and set numbers to "Synthesizer." This should help.

Steve

Hi all:
I paucit that this should have been done from the factory--at the
developer's desk! Private beta-testers, whom I consider to be power
users, should have spotted this and reported it.
I choose to use the Character dictionary to CORRECT THE PRONOUNCIATION
of my name and such. However, I won't even bother with that because I
DO
NOT EXPECT any screen reader, unless if I am a genius enough to create
one, to ever pronounce my name correctly.
Having said the foregoing, should a scripter wish to take it up, that's
all well and good! I take this time to thank all scripters who have
provided free scripts to make Window-Eyes work even better. Their
invaluable service to the Window-Eyes and other screen readers'
communities is greatly appreciated.
Lastly, does anyone know how I can make Window-Eyes say 1$ instead of
dollar1 when the number comes after the sign? It is awkward to hear
Window-Eyes read "dollar1" when it should be reading "1$". To make it
read correctly in this message, I have had to put the dollar sign after
the number.
Sincerely,
Olusegun
