Dectalk Express has very good speech, but the built-in battery can
become a problem if the units become old, so that's worth keeping in
mind. Since the express is wired to always draw power from its battery,
once the battery goes bad you won't even be able to use it while plugged
in unless you get the battery replaced. Also, if your rj12-mmj serial
adapter goes bad, finding a replacement can be a serious problem. Me
personally, I like my Keynote Gold SA both for its speech and its use of
standard cables, but good luck finding one of those these days. The only
hardware synthesizers that I know for certain are still being made are
those from Access Solutions and RC Systems. I would go with a Doubletalk
LT over a Trippletalk for several reasons. First, there's no NiCad
battery in it that can go bad very quickly. That was a bad idea in any
case, as it will be constantly powered from the USB port if used that
way. Axsol seems to have realized this, because the Dectalk USB doesn't
include such a battery. Second, it's a newer (and flashable) RC8650
chipset. Any post-2001 LT can be brought up to date with the latest RC
firmware using the RC Studio application and a few clicks of a button.
If you need to run it from battery, it can take any standard 9-volt and
if you don't have a serial port, it works well with USB to serial
adapters. On top of that, it's half the cost of a Trippletalk USB.

From what I know, there's not much people making external syn nowadays.
The access solution also made the so call clone of Dectalk USB which
does
not sound as good as my Dectalk Express.
I really got no idea who is still making external syn as compared in the
past.
Most of people are just using more than 2 soundcard, and just use
mainly
one of them for syn, so its as good as using an external syn.

Can anyone recommend a good external synthesiser to work with WE 7.5 and
W7 32 bit?
I have been using an external Triple Talk for over 5 years and,
although the speach is to my liking, it has never been technically
great. Occasionally it will go into a sort of endless loop and it needs
to be shut off and restarted to solve this problem. Also, sometimes it
is difficult to silence the speech. although this problem seems to have
improved under W7 and WE 7.5. Lately it has begun to give a loud click
and stop speaking requiring a shut off and restart.
Has anyone else had these problems with their Triple Talk or is mine
just a defective unit? I would like another only if they have improved
technically.
Anyway, failing that, has anyone got any suggestions regarding a
external replacement? No, I don't wish to use a software syn.
