Hi! yes, the firmware update via the pc suite may remove all your apps and settings, so you should better do a backup first. Sometimes updates are not for the whole system and apps will stay, but you should not relie on that and backup everything first.

When you open it it won't speak anything, but just try to press alt! this will open the menue and cursor up and down and left and right will read the current item to you. Most of the windows should be accessible too. i use the suite for mobile internet access with my cell phone and to update firmware and so on.
