FWIW. Interesting. I've used Eset for years and had a problem with their site the last time it was due for an update. So I tried the free Avira edition for the heck of it. The first time I ran it it gave me two false positives. Luckily they were both programs I had written myself. So I wasn't off on a wild goose chase or quarantining programs I needed that weren't viruses. Needless to say, that was the last run of Avira on my system.

Regards,
Tom

Don't know if this listing made it to the entire list, so here it is.
It's consumer report's evaluation of free and paid antivirus programs. I
forgot to include No. 13, which is Mcafee.

I seem to remember that the Vipre program was near the bottom of

I'll read it again tomorrow, and if I am wrong, I'll let you
know.

Hi Josh,

Very interesting about the Microsoft offering.

Were any of the non free anti virus programmes covered as well?

I am currently trialing Vipre Premium (anti virus and firewall)
and
was
wondering hif this programme was mentioned and if so, how it
went.

Thanks

Hey listers,
Consumer Reports magazine has for the last few times they've
reviewed
antivirus programs, recommended Avira's antivirus program the
best
among
free programs. This past June, they did so again, and the one
whom
many
of us have switched to, after leaving AVG, Microsoft Security
Essentials,
was dead last among the free antivirus programs. So the
question
is, is
any one of you using this program, and does it work well with
WE?
