Casey,

This is controlled by the GW Toolkit upon which most apps rely to varying degrees. At the moment, update checks are configured in each app rather than as a master yes/no toggle. You can either update the apps which show as being out of date, or you can go into the Help and Options for apps which you want to stop checking for updates to disable this functionality.
