Calling this a "functionality" is the most polite term applicable.  That
it is harded coded with no mechanism by which it can be centrally turned
off is highly disruptive to those of us who can make our own decisions
regarding updates and do not wish to go through each app and turn off
the update.  Thus far I have stayed out of WE scripting code, but this
is irritating enough that it may motivate me to dig in at least enough
to disable it.
