OK, I am going to wade in here with an opinion from a minion; namely me. Is OCR technology a cool thing? Yes it is. Is OCR a text to speech program function? I would argue that it is not.
If Window-Eyes stays away from OCR technology being built-in I think this would be a good thing. I am not a proponent of software bloat. The smaller my screen reading application can be the happier I am. If I was to take the side of OCR should be an important part of any text to speech application, I am sure that if I take the time to think about it, I can come up with compelling reasons to also include a text editor, a web browser, a reminder, a telephone dialling utility, a vacuum cleaner, and so on.
