I've seen that happen Mike on my systems which have a power saving plan
which puts them to sleep after X number of minutes of inactivity, or the one
which kicks on a passworded screen saver after X number of minutes of no
activity.

The only way to stop this from happening, if this is your case, is to
arrange it so your system never goes to sleep or never has a screen saver.

I do have one system which never goes to sleep (I want it to continually
run), and hourly time announcements just keep happening right on time, even
though I'm not touching it. I think Bruce added a feature to his cuckoo
clock app, to stop the announcements overnight just for this kind of
arrangement.
