Steve, It doesn't seem to me to have any more capabilities than WordPad, if you can still get that for your temporary use, then that might do you.
You can use Office starter to download an upgrade to full Office (or of course probably buy full Office at a better price over the internet). No one can download Office Starter, so I am unable to see if scripting would help out the situation.
