For those having troubles with Thunderbird, it would be a good idea to
list which add-ins you have installed. Some of those may be causing the
issues you are experiencing.

I'm unable to duplicate any of your problems other than somewhat
sluggish response in the composition window. I don't know what
nostalgia is, but moving through folders and creating a new one works
fine here in TB 8 on Win 7/64.

Here is an update. I am testing V8 on this machine and am not
impressed. Here are the current issues:
1. WE no longer reads to the current line position each time I type a
character or use the arrow keys, however, the keystrokes with in the edit
window are sluggish. There is a noticeable sponginess during text
entry. This is on a machine that is at the higher end of fast.
2. I have not yet investigated the cause, but the backspace no longer
reads characters as it deletes. It does delete them, but one must check
in other ways to be sure what has been removed. This is perhaps a
setting.
3. When highlighting text, the text is no longer read. This is most
inconvenient. This two may be a setting.
4. The edit in which one enters text for folder names in Nostalgia now
believes it is a button. It does still work, although it is no longer
possible to arrow through folder choices. This problem exists in both
WE and Jaws13 in V8.
5. I have noted at least two incidents of WE going into browse mode
when replying to a message. This problem may be less frequent, but it
is definitely still present.
I am using the installed set file for TBird and at the moment even the
TBird app. I would describe this program as usable, but not truly
accessible. I am still evaluating if it is irritating enough to incline
me to down grade WE and return to TBird 3.x. The real issue is that I
should not be in a position of having to make such a choice. Other
screen readers work smoothly with version 3.x as well as version 8.

I agree with you totally but it appears that GW has made it where it
only works with TB version 8. I even tried to remove the TB enhanced
app and it still reads as you describe.

Not a chance, because if it does not, I will not only be re-installing
an older version of WE but TBird as well. I should not need to
upgrade
to the latest version of a mail client in order to get my dang screen
reader to behave itself.

update to TB 8 and problem goes away.

Well, Thus far, the update went smoothly. The behavior in TBird
3.1.16
is disappointing. The problem of flipping into browse mode in email
replies is still occurring. And, there is something far worse. As
I am
typing this message, WE is echoing the test of each line up to
the last
letter I have typed every time I hit a keystroke. This is not
something
I can live with for very long. Before I am told to upgrade
TBird, I am
letting you know that I will not be doing this, because, if I
have to
back out 7.5.2 I do not want to also have to re-install TBird. For
reference, I am not using the TBird app. That app has randomly
caused
TBird to crash when hitting escape to close a message for some
time. I
also just discovered that the use of my arrow keys is also causing
WE to
read the entirety of the current line in the text editor each time I
move. The only way I can sanely type a message right now is to type
fast and use the mouse pointer for review.
