The hangs happen with JAWS running, too. They even happen without any
screen reader loaded. I find myself having to kill and restart Firefox
more than ever these days, and it's almost always due to a Flash movie
going catatonic. So problems with Flash exists across browsers, and
across disabilities.
We have reported the problem to Adobe; I was on the call. So they are
aware of the issue.
Now, I'm not trying to get the rumor mill fired up, and I'm speaking
strictly off the record here with nothing more than anecdotal evidence
to back up what I'm about to say, but if you take into account that
Adobe has dropped their mobile Flash product, and publicly embraced
HTML5 (they're even pushing Adobe Edge to develop HTML5 apps rather than
Flash apps), the resources put into Flash development may be on the
decline. The mobile market, like it or not, is driving the direction of
interactive web interfaces, and HTML5 is clearly the platform of choice
(and not just because the Apple products don't support Flash). The long
term future of Flash is unclear at the moment. That's not to say that
they shouldn't put anything into trying to resolve these issues. But
it's something to think about.

GW agrees that there is a problem with IE 9 and flash player. Web
sites with flash cause IE 9 to crash. In my experience the problem
seems worse if WE is also running. Looking at the Adobe web site I
don't see a way to report the problem or otherwise get support. Does
anyone know of a way to report problems to Adobe about flash player?
