In outlook, alt-3 has been setup to read the "to:" field (when you're not in
the "to" field itself); maybe that's been done for Windows Live as well?
Or, if you're in the field, just try the read line command?

The command you were using, speak summary, I'm surprised ever read the "to:"
field.
