i don’t think the to field is a w e issue. w e has not been able to read
this field for several versions. not just the 7.5 version. once you leave
this field and go back to it it will not read.

I tried that and it does work. There is more than this GW Micro needs to
work on. When I press backspace to edit the to fieled, WE will only ding
and will not speak the characters.

In outlook, alt-3 has been setup to read the "to:" field (when you're not in
the "to" field itself); maybe that's been done for Windows Live as well?
Or, if you're in the field, just try the read line command?
The command you were using, speak summary, I'm surprised ever read the "to:"
field.
