An app already exists which will achieve this task and is called "select text" or something similar. It is not restricted to one application like Word but will work also in Notepad and the like. The user sets a mark at one point. moves the cursor to another point, completes the marking process with the press of two keysand then is able to delete the highlighted block , copy or whatever. I have been using it since WE scripts or apps were introduced.

Hi Kim,

I have another choice for you: I have written an app named Word Advanced
Features, and it allows you to drop a placemark anywhere in your Word
document, then move somewhere else, and hit a hotkey which causes it to
select all the text between your placemark and your current location.

You could even use this method with your suggested use of read-to-end, by
placing your placemark first, and then when you stop the reading, get your
position exactly where you want it, and press the hotkey for selection of
the text from the placemark to this location.

Subject: problem with Office hot key

Hi everyone,

I was listening to the pod casts put out a while ago by GW. Micro about
using Window-Eyes with MicroSoft Word. One thing that the speaker mentioned
was the ability to have extended selection of text by pressing F8, and using
the arrow keys or the control and arrow keys with having to also hold down
the shift key. After not being able to make this work, I called their tech
support people, and they informed me that it doesn't work now ever since
version 7.5. I can live with that, but I have a suggestion for the future.
How about instead of still having to use the control and arrow keys with
this "extended selection" option, you would have the ability to have the
text selected by using the "read-to-end" key after pressing the F8 key?
When you want to stop the selection, you could press the F8 key again. Can
anyone think of a reason why that wouldn't work?
