I just go to the top of the Word 2010 window (I don't believe this exists in
2007) and move across the top line until I find the string which says
something like "click here to allow editing", click it, and "protected view"
has been temporarily turned off for the document for that session.

If you have saved the document, you'll need to access it's properties via
windows explorer, and click the "unblock" button in the properties dialog to
make it permanent.

You have to turn protected mode off for these documents. I don't know how
to do this though.

Greetings everyone

I am not able to get WE to read MS Word documents when they are opened from
a link in Internet Explorer versions 8 and 9. Unlike Adobe Reader I was not
able to find any settings to change this behaviour.

My work around is to save the document then open it in MS Word. I am
noticing that I am receiving more and more documents through this method as
I am using more and more FTP types of sites for sharing documents.
