How many listservs have you been on that inundated your in box with more
messages than you could read in a day, or even a week? This list used to be
like that when all replies went, by default, to the entire list. As I
recall, the will of the then listers was polled and the change was made.
I'll take this any day over the avalanche of email that can otherwise
result.

        The big deal is that MOST email lists/groups do not have this and so

its safe to say that MOST list members here forget when in fact they 
want their reply to go to the list. It does get frustrating.
