Try going to a web site like youtube where flash is used. It will lock up about half the time.
That is correct.
GW admits that this is a problem but has no solution.
That is also correct.
The guys at GW admit also that they don't use IE 9 because of such problems.
That is incorrect. The reason that we don't use IE 9 on a regular basis comes down to personal preference. That is not to say that we do not test with IE9, but that we don't use it for our own personal browser experiences. In other words, when lunch time rolls around, and I want to catch up on the latest news while I eat, I will not be doing that with IE9. When someone reports a problem, or I'm working on IE Enhance, or we're testing a new feature or fix, then we're absolutely testing with IE9.
It's important that we talk with facts, here, and not assertions and innuendo. We've also stated that this Flash hang happens while running Jaws, NVDA, and even without running a screen reader at all. I've mentioned several times that I have to restart my browser at least once a day because I opened up a page that had Flash on it. It's not all the time, and it's not 100%, but it's always Flash related. Again, that's with no screen reader involved. But those points are rarely repeated.
When we first started diagnosing the problem, we thought it was related to interaction between Flash and MSAA, and that possibly Window-Eyes was stepping in where it didn't belong. But the more we've tried tracking down the problem, the more it becomes clear that the problem may not be with Window-Eyes at all, but with Flash itself. And you're right -- we don't have a solution. We don't have a solution to a problem that affects every screen reader, and non-screen reader user, regardless of browser. Do a Google search for "adobe flash freezing" and look at the number of results: about 3,760,000.
We know that Window-Eyes has some stability issues. But we have to spend time working on the things that we can duplicate, and that we're truly responsible for.
