Sounds silly, but if you've got the caps lock key on, that will cause beeping as
well

Hi Peter,

I can't think of any setting which would cause this; but I've seen it happen
when typing into a window which is not maximized.  If you are trying to always
remember to maximize a window when you open it, have a look at the "Window
Manager" app from GW, which can be set to do this for you automatically.

Also, the app I've written for Word named Word Advanced Features will
automatically maximize any document window which you open.
