No worries, Bud. It's a Window-Eyes verbosity setting.

Any time you want to have WE speak the word star in password edit boxes, do
the following:

Control backslash to open the WE control panel.
Alt E to put focus on the settings tree view.
Press the letter v to land on Verbosity.
Right arrow, down arrow to common, then down arrow to miscellaneous.
Shift tab (It's fewer keystrokes.) to the speak the word star in password
edit boxes radio buttons. Choose yes to make WE say the word star; choose no
to make WE echo the actual password characters.
Press Control S or tab to the save settings button.
Escape key to close the WE control panel.

Subject: doesn't say star when typing password

Hi Gang,

I don't know if this is wineyes related or not, but here lately when
I type in a password instead of saying star it reads back the letter
I have typed. I don't know what started it but it's consistent now
and does it all the time. I like it in a way as I can tell if I have
mistyped anything, but I'm concerned that my security may be
involved. Any ideas?
Thanks.,
