That's because you are using two different functions of Window-Eyes. The
speak the word star radio buttons affect the keyboard echo, while the browse
mode cursor, which is a Window-Eyes screen function, sees the asterisks. As
you are typing, Window-Eyes is speaking the keys, but a sighted user
watching you type in your password would see asterisks appearing on the
screen. I think I just said that.

I see this (what do I mean, see this?) when logging into my Bank of America
online account.  Even though I hear what I type in (as other than asterisks)
and hit the Enter key I am logged in.  I could also tab once, then go back
once, then enter the password hearing those mollifying asterisks.

No idea why this happens
