Dave,
Your steps were a bit sketchy but my guess is you down arrowed to a
control (or hit C to get to a control) and manually turned off browse
mode with either control-shift-A or you hit enter on the control. In
either case, you turned browse. Because you turned it off, we assume
you want it off and we no longer enable the auto mode. It is off until
you turn it on or a new page loads. This is by design. It would be
frustrating if you wanted it off but we kept turning it back off on you
every time you tabbed to a link for example.
