You have to be really careful when you use the default method for updating Java and Flash. On the webpage where the update download is offered, there will often be a checkbox, checked by default, which installs a toolbar or in this case makes Chrome your default browser. You need to look for these access-destroying free offers and make sure to uncheck them before proceeding to download the update. The Chrome browser was offered the last time I was doing a Flash update. Some people use Ninite to avoid this kind of default screen reader sabotage.
