I'm not sure why you were having the crashes, but I think I know what was happening on your web page. In WE eight, automatic form interaction is probably set to on by default, which means WE behaves differently when you use the tab key. There is a hot key to toggle that feature off and on. Toggling automatic form interaction off would have, I believe, caused WE to behave the way you wanted it to.
I don't know if you want to trouble yourself, but it might be worthwhile to do a completely clean install of WE eight. <grin>. Or not.
