If you don't mind waiting a little while, Windows 8.1 or windows blue, is supposed to restore the option to bring back the start button and boot to the desktop. It won't cost a windows 8 user anything to upgrade.
After working with windows 8 for a while, it doesn't seem too bad. The most difficult thing is that ie10 and W E are not allowing the use of the mouse on web pages. That makes it hard to mouse click something that insists on that.
