Hi Barbara Since you don't have speech on your desktop, what you could do is go to your pc, open the run dialogue with the windows key, plus the letter r, and then type, http://www.SaToGo.com that's s, a, t, o, g, o.com then press enter. you'll be asked to press enter to begin so go ahead and do that. after that, you'll be asked to press control plus r to continue, sometimes you have to try this twice because the dialogue comes up after the spoken prompt. You may be asked to do this twice, so go ahead and do that. You know you're successful when you hear a few assending musical tones, followed by a log on screen. if you don't have an account with them, it's ok, you can log in as a guest. The point of this whole thing is so you can have speech just long enough so you can investigate what might be going on with window-eyes. The first thing I'd check is to see if maybe the volume of the sound card window-eyes uses hasn't been turned down to 0 or something, or possibly muted. i know sometimes after closing a program, Window-eyes takes a second to start talking again but there's a bit of a few second lag there, there doesn't seem to be any real rhyme or reason to it. I wouldn't ordinarily talk about them on this list because it's a respect thing for GW Micro but I don't want you to have to cart your pc all the way over to your computer guy if this is something you can fix yourself if you have the right tools for the job. Sa to go will help you at least figure out what's going on, and if you have more questions we can help further. I hope this helps a bit.
