Hi. I changed the subject line for a reason. Refer to previous messages
for the original subject line.

I have observed that after upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1 on my Dell
desktop pc that keystrokes behave erratically. When I try to use the arrow
keys, they stop working after the pc is restarted or is booted up from a
cold shut down. First letter navigation works, however. For example, let's
say the arrow keys won't navigate the desktop left, right, up or down. If I
restart the pc, the arrow keys work again for about a minute or two. Then
the same behavior occurs. When this behavior occurred and I launched
Humanware Companion, the first item in my list of talking books would read,
but the up or down arrow keys wouldn't highlight the 32 items. First letter
navigation worked, however. Also, Windows 8.1 changed the Window-eyes
setting to the default browse mode setting to tones only. Since none of the
arrow keys would work, I couldn't access the tree view accept by first
letter navigation. A restart got the arrow keys to work again and I was
able to make the changes in browse mode to speech and tones. Also, this
quirky behavior causes the numbpad keys to not speak.

I was on the phone with one of the Microsoft accessibility support
technicians for nearly two hours today. He uninstalled and reinstalled the
keyboard driver and that didn't fix the problem. He also checked for driver
updates and there weren't any. I really hope that Gw Micro can duplicate
the issues, and can contact the right folks at Microsoft to solve these
issues. The reason I'm able to send this message to the list is thanks to
having a laptop with Windows 7 64 bit on it. I unintentionally sent
multiple messages to the Gw-apps list because I was having such a difficult
time proofreading messages and determining whether they were sent or not.
In my opinion, Windows 8.1 is one of the most glitch prone upgrades I have
ever tried. However, I am willing to try to stick things out under the
circumstances.

Mike M.

P.S. Having said all of this, I'm willing to wait and see if Gw Micro can
duplicate the issues, but I'm surely glad I have a reliable operating system
in Windows 7 64 bit. My desktop pc is a Dell Xps-8500 running Window-eyes
8.3 under Windows 8.1. My laptop is a Dell Xps-501 running Windows 7 64 bit
home premium and Window-eyes 8.3.
