Great job on this app Chip. Wish you could come up with a way to silence the full stop reading for periods. But even without that, your app is going to save me a whole lot of frustration.

Regards,

Chris

Dennis,

I'll try, but you should read the manual on exception dictionaries; they're
a very nice feature of WE, and you'll be glad to know about them.

Go to the WE control panel, to the treeview, and arrow down to
"dictionaries". Open it up, and arrow down to the "exception" dictionary.
Tab over to the list of entries and arrow down through them and see if you
come to one for "rd" (it may say "road"). If so, press alt-r to remove it,
and then alt-s to save your settings.

I'm not sure what you are asking, so I'll take a guess: if you want to
know
what I mean by "go to the Window-Eyes control panel", I just mean press
control-backslash to bring up the main Window-Eyes window.

The settings I mentioned are in the WE control panel. You move to the
treeview control, open up the "Screen" item, go down to "other", and then
tab over through the various settings.

Also, if 3rd is saying third for you, check to see if you have a
dictionary
entry for "rd".

If you'd like to be the first to try this .

I've added a new app named Speech_Fix.

It improves English speech by processing ordinal oddities such as 1
followed by s t into the word first, 2 followed by n d into second,
etc.

(this requires the Window-Eyes setting for "spell alpha-numeric" to be
set to "off", and "numbers" to "on", in order to work properly).

It also attempts to handle abbreviations where the context determines
what should be spoken. Examples of these would include the
abbreviation of s t, which could be street or saint. The same is true
of d r, which can be doctor or

drive, and even rd which could be part of an ordinal such as third,
or the abbreviation of road.

And . it should be able to do this without any noticeable impact on
the speech responsiveness.

It's not always perfect, and some programs don't seem to create output
in long lines of speech, so it does do poorly in those cases. Please
write me and tell me if you like it and keep using it, or find that
something it does makes

   you stop using it.

If you have suggestions for unusual written English oddities which
this app might be able to improve the speech for, please do write to
me at the email provided.

Thanks to Munawar Bijani for his DotFix app, which was the idea for
this app. I recommend you also try the DotFix app, as it allows words
which are contractions with apostrophes, to be spoken properly even
when you have all punctuation set to "on".
