Thanks, Lou. I feel vindicated! But resorting to the arrow keys negates the
whole idea of read-to-end, because their use stops read-to-end; my frustration
destroys the grasp of what I'm reading. Remember, even if you start
down-arrowing, you oftern miss several words of text, because they don't even
resume the text on a new line. I sure wish I could write scripts!

Hey, Lou.

No. The new Window-Eyes version still works the same as older versions with
regards to reading the word link. What I do is press the right arrow key (the
upside-down t keys)every time I find myself listening to a long link.
That's for pages with which I'm not familiar. For pages I visit regularly, I can
navigate using any of several browse mode hot keys--like next or previous text
or next or previous heading. Stuff like that.

<grin>. Sometimes, just for kicks, I like to listen to read running down and
then catching a quick breath, though. Sometimes.

It's becoming more and more annoying to me to have to listen to the reading of
endless links, many many of which are now extending out to three and four lines
in length, and what's more, the authors of most of such articles don't even have
the courtesy to go to the trouble of resuming the text on a new line! I find it
extremely tedious to listen to, not to mention the gradual drop in pitch of my
Eloquence voice into his boots until he can't go any lower! Am I really the
only one who is bothered by this? Couldn't GW do something about it? It seems
to me that all that is needed is that the screen reader might just delete the
reading of the entire link when in read-to-end mode, and maybe just say the word
link, or long URL, or some such. Reserve the reading of such trash for the
arrow keys. Since I thought all links are blue onscreen, it shouldn't be
impossible to execute such a modification.

Thanks for listening

Louis Gosselin
