Hello Wendy, could Window-Eyes or another programme be muted in the adjust system volume settings? You may wish to get sighted assistance to help you with this. Also, have you tried loading up Narrator instead of NVDA to try and help diagnose the problem? Just press control escape, type narrator and press enter, and that should load it up.
