Hi Barbara, I also thought a screen saver was the cause; you can tell if it is, because if you sit near the pc for a few minutes doing something else, you'll event hear Window-Eyes say something like "blank screen" (at least I do) when the screen saver kicks in. You can also track down where the screen saver is configured to see what it is set to. Another possible cause is that a lot of devices themselves (hard drives, monitors, sound cards, etc.) go into a power saving mode regardless of how Windows is set; they sometimes take a fraction of a second to wake up, and perhaps that's why you're missing a fraction of speech. You could try just pressing the shift key before doing anything (it should have no effect other than to wake up your system). FYI, my wife, who is sighted and so has no screen reader, has the same issue with her 64-bit Windows 7, while I do not with my 32-bit Windows 7. It could be the differences in Windows, or some configuration difference, but we've never been able to determine what it is. I do not have a screen saver unless it got activated without my specific knowledge. I realize these things sometimes occur. A minor issue really, but I am still asking. Smile. In recent times I have noticed a responsiveness issue, I guess it is. When I press a key, it does not seem to matter which one, I only hear the last half of whatever is spoken. If I continue working, all is fine or if I repeat the same keystroke. In other words when I am away from the computer for a while and come back, I experience this. I am not using any Windows sleep mode or the like. It seems some setting is just off. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for any help. Barbara
