This unfortunately is a known issue. They have put a key called clear where the numlock is on most keyboards. A few weeks ago one of my students ordered a machine directly from Dell which came with their "premium" keyboard. She called them immediately and they did agree to replace the keyboard. Another student was not so lucky. Dell was totally uncooperative with him. He was able to work his situation out with the manager of the store where he bought his Dell. Since I was in the market for a computer I decided to dump Dell even though my XP box has been great. Of course you can get standard keyboards, the company that built my new one easily supplied a nice Logitec keyboard and mouse which really are as standard as can be. You of course can switch to the laptop layout. If you want that Dell machine you can try to get them to supply a keyboard that meets your needs since you did pay for it. A more drastic thing to do would be to send the Dell back and choose another computer. They are again starting to use proprietary parts. This clinched my decision to avoid them at least for now. You don't havde to be pushed around by this outfit. Good luck.

Hi, my new dell w8.1 doesnt seem to have a NumLock key and we is reading the numbers on the mouse functions of the, well, numpad. Is there suppose to be a NumLock on all keyboards and if not how can I turn on numlock, or off, as the case may be to get my mouse keys working as WE functions and not just numbers? I looked at many, many settings but either missed it or its not in the docs. I did get the desktop up ok, got items pinned to it and am starting to see what other w8.1 settings might reduce some of the noise with w8.1.
Anyway, how can I toggle the NumPad state?
