All right, Bub. You're on. I'll check out demos first to see if the
voices are tolerable before I splash any cash. grin.

Hi Tom,
Well, until I started using my VW-Kate, I always assumed Eloquence would beat
anything in terms of responsiveness. You'd have to try it out to believe it.
You can get any NeoSpeech voice for $69 US or packages for more. Like I say, I
got VW-Kate with Kurzweil, and Paul was the male voice. Both are excellent,
and very responsive, even at high rates. Trying is believing, and I'm pretty
fussy too when it comes to performance.
All the best,
Rod

Hey, Rod.
Well, of course the resolution and/or design type of the voice, i.e.
sample based or purely synthesized, will make a difference. But I
haven't seen a SAPI voice yet that will perform as good as a voice with
a Window-Eyes driver. Then again, I can't stand robotic synthesized
voices, which are the fastest. I had no choice but to deal with that
daily headache for over 20 years. But regardless, anything will run
quicker than SAPI or the new Microsoft speech platform with a direct
Window-Eyes driver.
It's just the nature of the beast: direct control by Window-Eyes or an
intermediary stuck in between Window-Eyes and the synth.

Hi Tom,
I'm using VW-Kate as my default voice, which is a SAPI 5.0 voice bundled with
the K1000, and she's as quick and smooth as oil on a blister. Smile NeoSpeech
is the manufacturer. Sorry, I just couldn't resist the simile.

Yeah, but SAPI is another Microsoft platform that offers a performance
hit as well. I have the Ivona voices because I like them much more than
Vocalizer and wish they were the chosen one for direct support. The
difference in performance is very noticeable.

Also you can use any installed SAPI synthesizer that is installed on
your computer.
You can purchase other synthesizers such as Ivona from www.ivona.com
<http://www.ivona.com> Cepstral from www.cepstral.com

The Cereproc page is a little strange to navigate but it can be done.

Hi Matthew,
As Tom pointed out, this appears to be specific to the synthesizer you
are using. In addition to the premium synthesizers that are available
for purchase, you can also use the free eSpeak speech synthesizer as it
is included with the version of Window-Eyes for users of Microsoft Office.

Marc

Hello, I thought that I could get WindowEyes to stop pausing between
lines when reading long documents with Control shift R, but with the
default voice that comes with the free version, I can't cause this to
happen. I thought it would be the trigger delay, or the space threshold,
but changing both of those options to a lower number didn't affect this.
Is there something else I can change to make the reading more fluid? I
would like the program not to pause so long between sentences.
Thanks,
Matthew
