I know what you mean about those dashes.
I myself hate hearing them when I am reading an article on the
internet, and I hate when the name of this product is pronounced
"window - eyes".

When you checked your punctuation settings, was the application in
which this was occuring turned on?
For example, if you were in Internet Expdid you leave Internet
Explorer on while you checked your settings?
