I have the latest display driver from Freedom Scientific. The issue is long
standing: Some months ago, Doug advised that they have been unable to have a
meaningful dialogue with Freedom Scientific regarding improving the interface
of its displays with screen readers other than JAWS. I direct braille input
and this is not supported when the focus is the window-eyes braille display.

I long for updated braille support for Window-eyes v9, and don't plan to touch
JAWS any time soon.

Best.

Vaughan.

When was the last set of drivers done for your Braille display and have you
contacted Freedom Scientific and asked them this question? I'm not saying you
haven't done this, I was just curious.

Subject: Alva 640 Comfort Braille Display

Greetings everyone.

I am researching replacing my Focus Blue, as its interaction with Window-Eyes
is flawed. I accept that this is due to driver issues involving Freedom
Scientific.

So: are there Window-Eyes users who have the Alva 640 Comfort Braille display,
and if so - impressions would be appreciated.

For instance: How well does it interface with Window-Eyes, as it is not
specifically listed in supported braille displays? I do know that the older
640 is directly identified, so maybe the same default hot keys and direct input
apply with the newer model. I note the inclusion of NVDA as a built-in screen
reader - presumably - the display will function without NVDA if told that
another screen reader is preferred.

A detail which I am not sure about is the advantages of disadvantages of the
cursor routing keys being in front of the braille cells, rather than behind..
This just might be personal preference - more used to the braille cells being
closer to me than would be the case with the Alva.

Any other thoughts will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Vaughan.
