Hi Sky.

I have at last become very pessimistic about any new release of Window-Eyes.

My disolusionment consolidated when they trashed overseas customers for its competition involving Amazon. I will not buy the new synthesisers because we can't make the purchases off line. When I raised this nearly two years ago, I was given the lame excuse that there were issues of fraud. Non-U.S. residents are obviously more like to defraud than U.S. residents.

When looking at the preference for JAWS: Henter-Joyce and Freedom Scientific have always been more aggressive with their marketing, and more innovative with the development of new features. The New Zealand Freedom Scientific dealer is more proactive with respect to support to customers, and it seems that FS is more supportive of its dealer.

I do not like JAWS. I find it clunky, and although I would prefer that there was a proper development cycle for Window-eyes, and that customers were properly and respectfully treated - I am preparing to conclude that I shall loose my investment. The manual has a feature entitled 'Protecting Your Investment" - very little return on mine in recent years.

The industry insiders seem reluctant to provide comment that can assist users to understand the impact of the AI Squared buy-out. I concluded very quickly that in an optimistic way, this might have been a sensible succession plan for GW Micro - that it might mean a financial injection to ensure the future of Window-eyes: staff were not be made redundant (we were told) and expertise would be centred on development. My suggestions fo enhancements have been treated with a lack of engagement by staff through the list.

In the specialty area of customer purchased windows screen readers, JAWS has the entire industry to itself. NVDA just seems to unreliable for intensive and extensive access to Windows applications, but I do undersand why NVDA has a loyal fan base.

If I am wrong - Window-eyes nine will come soon, and it will be counted against my SMA which was the agreement behind purchasing a software maintenance agreement.

GW Micro at its peak was a fine company to work with. It produced an outstanding product, which lead the pack in many areas. Changing business realities may have caught up with it, and as always, customers become the victims of misfortune.

Vaughan.

Hi. Vaum. Yes, the tech industry appears to be passing Window-Eyes by, but I
think this problem will get fixed as we 9.0 comes out and the agencies
realize that squared has a screen reader as well as a magnifier that they
can buy. In all my years as a college, and high/middle students, Window-Eyes
has never been included as an option. Only the shark was included because
the institutions had a lot of money to getting the shark instead of WE. As a
result some students of the hsark from years ago have tried w.e and they
find the switch very hard, even with the jaws layout, but a few, like
myself, and a few others, has made it. Also keep in mind that a lot of
organizations did evaluate w.e when the office deal came out but they
rejected it and went back to nvda/jaws partly because of it not being
standards compliant. Either way, I still like aisquared/gwmicro and the
people that work there, and w.e as well for some things. When it comes to
audio engineering, and recording, I use caketalking from dancing dots, and
the shark.

But Edward: you can use v8.4 with Firefox.

The broader question though is that we do need a new Window-eyes sooner
rather than later. The industry appears to be passing Window-eyes by.

Its shortcomings are more than just with Internet Explorer v11.

I think it is likely to coincide with the release of Windows 10.
