I have the BC 640 and noticed a lot of sluggishness when I used it.
However, I was able to type in grade II. Now with the Handy Tech Active
Braille, I am no longer able to write in contracted braille. It has to
do somehow with... Well and not really sure. One side is blaming the
other as to the problem with the braille table or their respective
software. I am hoping that this is worked on in version 9. Frankly, I
think the whole braille section of Window-Eyes needs to be redone.
That's asking a lot, but this is been troublesome for quite a few of us
who rely on braille displays and/or grade II input. Sorry, that didn't
really answer your question, but I do know what you mean about having
Window-Eyes speak incorrectly when a key is pressed on the display.

Greetings everyone.
In anticipation for the soon to be released version nine.
I have taken possession, for trial purposes, of the Alva 640 Comfort
braille display.
I am hopeful that AI Squared and Optelec will improve the Window-Eyes
interface.
Direct braille input seems problematic.. For example: space-U is
often used to toggle between upper and lower case. Window-eyes often
says num lock (on or off) as a toggle.
When attempting to define hot keys, there are instances where
Window-"eyes says "that is not a braille key" when trying to capture a
key.
Also with hot keys: there is reference to the smart pad -- which is an
Alva legacy from previous models.
I acknowledge that AI Squared relies on manufacturers to update their
information and driver software, but I hope that such updating is
occurring.
I have the braille device set as Optelec Alva bc640 (new v3.10) and my
guess is that it is probably correct.
I'd still appreciate other peoples' experiences with this display.
Vaughan.
