I get all you are saying about error handling. I was pretty much wishful
thinking.
As for why I haven't done a clean install, long story. I either lost or
misplaced my WE discs after moving and a long stretch of dealing with health
issues and other such distractions made it very easy to regularly tell
myself that the next major release of WE wouldn't be too far off and my SMAs
would get me a new disc so paying for a replacement would be a waste and on
and on. It is amazing how quickly a long period of time can go by in such
situations, particularly when the larger problems don't let up. I did fail
to think of minimizing my running apps. Something I should have thought of.
I have, from time to time run the last update to Window eyes over the
current install and found that this sometimes helps for a period and
sometimes doesn't. I just did this again, and it seems to be helping this
time. I am hoping it will continue to help until the beta is available. When
the full release of 9 is out and I get my disc, I will do a clean install
and will be putting my disc in my fireproof safe this time, and keeping it
there even when the safe is transported if I move again.
Regards,
Chris

The reason diagnostics cannot provide all the information about what was
going on when a crash is that it would have to track every single tick
of every processor on your system in order to look back in time to see
what lead up to the crash. It's like a car accident. If you hit a tree
the only thing the police know when they get there is that you were
driving a car, hit a tree, and the impact of that crash stopped your
car. That's why they ask questions and look around. diagnostics is
already looking around as much as it can.
And if you've been dealing with corruption in your current installation
for over a year now why hasn't it occurred to you to do a fresh install?
You can backup your user folder in two minutes, start anew, see how
things work, and then slowly start phasing any custom set files back in
as needed. I'd also suggest taking a good look at every app you're
running and only enable those which are absolutely necessary rather than
convenient.
A screen-reader is a program trying to do something computers have never
been designed to do. So if you want to use a computer it might take a
little effort on your part.
Just some food for thought.

Tom

I am pretty much with you on this Jim. I wouldn’t mind the error
reporting form being optional if there is some reasoning as to the
diagnostic not being able to provide all of the information about what
was going on when a crash occurred, but it would be absolutely wonderful
if they were able to increase the sophistication of their diagnostic
system to the point that it could just automatically give them a
snapshot of everything pertinent that was going on when a crash happens.
Having been dealing with some corruption in my current instal of 8.4 for
over a year now, I can’t even come up with words enough to express how
much I am looking forward to automatic shut down and restart. If the
function could work so smoothly that it happens without any fanfare and
just presents like a pause for the least amount of time the restart can
be accomplished, it would be absolutely amazing. I don’t know how
feasible having things go that way is, but here’s hoping.

Hi,
Well a auto restart is a good idea it causes problems as well. If a
auto restart is done the program should not play the startup sound. The
program should not speak the welcome message the program should just get
back to work. Error reports should just happen automaticly if I like.
Most of the time I have no idea nor is it my job to have an idea why an
error is happening. I just want to send the error behind the seems and
do what ever it was I was trying to do before the thing foo bard. Any
restart should clear away the icon from the system tray of the old
copy. This causes confusion having more then one iconon the system
tray. Of course this causes you to not know witch icon for the program
you should press. If you pick the wrong one yes the icon then goes away
but you will probably find yourself in a context menu you don’t want to
be in.
Every problem I sight above is a problem with other screen readers that
have this sort of feature. It is not pretty.

The difference is that the app cannot work if Window-Eyes crashes.

Hello
Isn't this the same as the restart window eyes app? How is it different?
