Tom,
I'll have to get Windows Live Mail installed to test this. But
remember, f8 is a browse mode command, so it makes perfect sense that it
would not work when you are not in browse mode which you would not be as
you are composing or replying.
It does bother me that you say backspace and now shift-arrows are not
working. I'm wondering if something is corrupted on your system.
