I am still having some issues with the F8 method not selecting what I want,
or not copying to the clipboard at all, even though Window eyes says 'copy
to clipboard.' This is with beta 3. Some examples:
I use both IE and Firefox in part because I am borrowing time on a family
member's computer. Often I need to copy something in an IE 11 window and
paste it in a Firefox 34 or whatever the latest version is window. Today I
wanted to copy the name of an item I read a review of in an article opened
in IE 11. I started the selection at the beginning of the item name, arrowed
to the end of the item name, and copied the text after pressing F8 again. I
got the Window Eyes feedback that the selection had been copied then alt
tabbed to the instance of Amazon's home page I had open in a Firefox window.
What pasted to the search box was all of that section of the review, not
just the model name, even though I carefully made sure to press f8 at the
point I wanted to start. I opened a notepad window to check exactly how much
text had been copied, and it was, indeed, the entire review of that product,
though it did not contain the reviews of the other two models of the

The second issue I run into a lot is having content supposedly copied to the
clipboard not copied at all. I can't recall a specific page to link to, it
doesn't happen consistently and seems more connected to Window Eyes being in
a state where odd things often happen, I tend to think of it as WE being
tired as shutting down and restarting Window eyes generally fixes the
problem. This condition, which is not related to how long Window eyes has
been running since it often happens at the initial start up of Window Eyes
can also affect how well key combination commands go, with them often not
working and only having Window eyes read the letter pressed in the
combination and also causes odd behavior with browse mode. The browse mode
behavior in these cases includes things such as Window Eyes saying that
browse mode is not available when it should be, window Eyes saying 'browse
off' over and over again no matter how many times control+shift+a is pressed
and browse mode coming on and then immediately turning off again when I try
entering an edit box or other object that leaving would normally cause
browse mode to turn on again. When Window eyes does this, escape will not
force browse mode back on. pressing escape at these times gives no audio
feedback. All of this is generally fixed by restarting Window Eyes.
One more thing I have been meaning to report. I often run into an issue that
silences Window eyes and that almost never can be fixed without either
sighted help or a hard restart of the computer. Every once in a while I can
start up system Access which will then close Window Eyes and then I can
restart Window eyes after shutting down S.A. and then I will have speech
again from Window eyes, but this only works on rare occasions. what seems to
be causing this is one or more sessions of Internet Explorer 11 crashing. If
the S.A. method works, or I get sighted help, there is an error message
stating that Internet Explorer has stopped working and must be closed and
restarted in order to work again. There is a button to close Internet
Explorer and another button I can't recall because I have never clicked on
it. When S.A. is up or I have assistance, clicking the button to close IE
will cause Window Eyes to speak again, immediately if I have help and WE is
still running, or upon shutting down System Access and starting up Window
Eyes again. Very, very rarely, the message will pop up and Window Eyes will
continue speaking for a minute or so before going silent and I have a chance
to click on the button and avoid the lockup, but this might happen once or
twice in twenty or so occurrences. If the System Access method doesn't work,
Windows will generally be very sluggish and I won't be able to get speech
out of S.A. for very long. The standard shut down methods won't work and I
will have to shut the computer down with the power button and hard restart
the computer. I believe that when this happens, the same thing happens as
when my sighted help is available and cannot get the error message to go
away. In these cases, the mouse cursor indicates that Windows is working on
a process that is going slow and, as with the failled S.A. attempts, a hard
reset is all that will work.
I don't know why these IE crashes lock up Window Eyes, as I said, System
Access will generally speak except for those odd solid lock ups. Nothing
else seemms to lock up as long as Windows isn't stuck on that bogged down
task. Even other instances of Internet Explorer run fine when a sighted
person tries to click links and other IE tasks with the mouse. Many times,
if I am able to get things going without a restart, none of my IE sessions
are missing, so I don't really know what is crashing. Sorry for the length
of this report, I felt that I needed to be as thorough as possible if I was
to give any useful information.
Apologies for straying beyond the F8 issue. Discussing it reminded me of the
other issues that I had been meaning to mention, so I thought I had better
report them before I forgot again.

You are told what you are not selecting. However it doesn't say the word
unselected.
In the below message I arrowed through the word successfully then arrowed
back until I selected succ and pressed f8. It only copied succ to the
clipboard.

There are certainly times when the new selection method using F-8 could be
very handy. Heaven knows I've had my problems with the clipboard;
however, it presents a problem, especially with short selections. Once
you're in that mode, any arrow-based command will select something. What
if you select text you don't want copied?
With the traditional arrow-key procedure it's not a big deal to deselect,
but with this F-8 protocol it certainly is. You don't know where you are
till you do the command, and it's a classic Catch-22 situation. You could
spend all day trying to paste a single link. Somehow we're going to need
both methods, as we're going to need buffered browse mode unless the
read-to-end item mode issues and the awkward ppause problems can be
successfully addressed.
